Mike's Minute: It's Over for Clinton

It’s over. I know Senator Clinton is talking about continuing her quest for the Democratic nomination, but the reality is that the outcome of yesterday’s primaries in Indiana and North Carolina have, for all intents and purposes, closed the door on her. She didn’t win by enough in the Hoosier state and lost by too much in the Tar Heel state. That’s not the kind of performance that will neutralize or inspire wavering superdelegates. As a result of last night’s primaries, it is now impossible to see her winning nomination without the kind of fight that will hurt the party for a generation or more.

LOL!
Obama is going to be the next President of the United States. He IS the more electable democratic candidate. Don't let the Clintonistas fool you. White blue collar highschool dropouts will vote for Obama when he's the nominee. If Clinton were that strong a candidate, she would have sewn up the nomination the 5th of February. Now a lot of earlier Clinton supporters have buyers' remorse and are willing to support whoever gets the nomination. That handful of resentful so-called feminists and fearful xenophobes won't matter that greatly in November. And, all it will take to beat grampers is a pulse and a body temp somewhere in the high 90s Fahrenheit.
Hillary should have run in 2004. By now she would have been the encumbent. Now, she's hanging in there because she's broke and taking credit card donations for mony now. She's looking for a deal for when she has to fight all the way to defeat for her Senate seat in 2010 when Albany needs to have someone a lot less embarrassing representing New York interests.

This is the way it will go down in November if the nomination is stolen from Sen. Obama. All black Americans will organize with the likes of Al Shartpton and Jesse Jackson. We will get a many registered blacks and go out to the polls and vote for John McCain. This will be the best way to show White racists Americans that we have power too. Most of the black Americans I know is saying this is what they plan to do.

I meant to say: It is counterintuitive to think someone that is losing is the stronger candidate. This is cognitive dissonance at its finest.

If people liked Clinton she would be winning and she would have money. It is counterintuitive to think some that is losing is the stronger candidate. This is cognitive dissonance.

Wow. It seems to me that what you're saying, Michael, is that the Democratic party is resigned to losing in November in order to save the party.
I agree with you that Clinton is the stronger general election candidate. Yet, as you described, the risk for Democrats in nominating Clinton, who would be perceived as stealing the nomination from Obama, is the dealignment of black voters from the Democratic party. (Anecdotally, my brother, who lives near Philly, said he would walk away from the party if Obama was not the nominee.)
While Democrats can conceivably win the presidency in the short run with support from fewer black voters, the outcome for down-ticket Democratic candidates would be disastrous.
The Democratic party's fate this cycle is sealed. They have no choice but to keep the tent full in order to fight again another day.
Nonetheless, I think Clinton should continue to compete in the democratic process despite the apparent odds against her prevailing. The remaining unpledged delegates will do what they feel they have to do.
