Michael Steele's Many Problems

Michael Steele has been under a barrage of criticism from fellow Republicans since his ascendancy to the chairmanship of the Grand Old Party.  Along the way, he has embarrassed himself and his supporters with some of his rhetoric and for not seeming to show where he wants to take the Party.  But it’s not all his fault.  The GOP is in nearly as bad shape as the domestic automakers, so it’s probably accurate to believe that he was handed the keys to a beat up Ford Pinto, not a brand new Rolls Royce.  While he is the lightening rod, the GOPs problems can’t easily be fixed – by anyone.  Be that as it may, Steele’s stewardship of the Republican Party leaves much to be desired.

It’s not like he entered the job with a mandate for change.  He was the default winner of the chairmanship. One leading candidate was eliminated after the “Barack the Magic Negro” CD snafu.  Another had the temerity to seek the job despite membership in a racially exclusive country club – that’s not the resume line that suggests the GOP is really interested in having a “big tent.”  Steele’s win did not come with the momentum or wide range of enthusiastic support that one usually has entering this position, so his blunders and missteps have been magnified.

He got mocked at the White House Correspondents Dinner and has had a series of media blunders that have called into question his judgment and leadership.  He embarrassed himself by capitulating to Rush Limbaugh after showing some political bravery (and recognizing the facts) by stating that the bloviating talk show host was an incendiary force within the Party.  Conservatives seem to be the only ones who don’t understand that most people don’t want to support a party whose most important figure is a talk show host.  Steele’s honesty was followed by a hat-in-hand appearance on Limbaugh’s show.  That event, a month into Steele’s term, showed everyone that the chairman is neither feared nor respected by Limbaugh (and those of his ilk).

Steele will likely be among the fallguys after the 2010 elections which, at this early date, will look a lot like the 2006 and 2008 ones.  The rush to regionalize the GOP will be nearly complete by that time.  For the sake of a two-party democracy, let’s hope that moderates will find the strength they need to push back against a conservative onslaught that has nearly destroyed the GOP.

"...so it’s probably accurate to believe that he was handed the keys to a beat up Ford Pinto..." LOL! More like an Edsel broke down to it's rusting break pads atop of eight evenly distributed cinderblocks.

"...Steele will likely be among the fallguys after the 2010 elections which, at this early date, will look a lot like the 2006 and 2008 ones..." Yeah, definitely a rebuidling season for this overtaxed team whose last few post season plays have either not existed or looked a craptacular hot burning mess. The GOP is a lot worse off than the post-85-86 Chicago Bears, and Steele is definitely the scapegoated Ditka in this franchise.

The truth is the GOP tent has been pretty exclusively limited to crusty, old, rich, southern, white men for a very long time. Up until We The People finally woke up their usually stealth greed tanking the global economy, the GOP way of political life worked out pretty gingerly for this self-interested lot. Had not Chimperor Dumya been in Office, touting Grampy Mac and Caribou Barbie as his anointed successors, when the global economy fell into a fissure in the Earth live during Grampy's declaration that the economy was sound, there is no telling how long Amerikkka would have suffered Stockholm syndrone. Even now, the nation is plagued by the bane of right wing detracting naysayers and frightened Democratic enablers of the far right gumming up the works of our national deliverence. That notwithstanding, folks are abandonging the GOP tent because it's now obvious that it is on fire. And, Michael Steele just isn't humanly capable of bringing enough water to snuff that inferno. As it is, the befuddled and perplexed Steele has too often mistaken cans of flammable kerosine for water, horrifically and irreparably damaging his own credibility and reputation in the process. I suppose the good news is that Steele is only there to entertain his handlers, while they bide their time rebuilding their team.

The Repugs are well aware that this tanked economy has mandated that voters are officially too poor to vote in the corporacratic interest of capitolism, free trade, and Reaganistic laissez faire economics. The Repugs know the GOP is doomed in 2010 and 2012. And, if prosperity has not returned to America, 2014 is not looking good either.

But, the Dems have a knack for shooting themselves in both feet at the very moment they need to be able to run fast and well. And, these voters have the shortest memorieis and attention spans this side of mental impairement. Furthermore, any little glimmer of prosperity will suffice as inducement enough to backslide right back into our pre-Dumya complacency, expecting career politicians to do all our thinking for us. It's at that point that the crusty old Repugs will slide in with their conservative excrement polished to a blinding golden glare, the same way they did during the days of their beloved Reagan. When this day comes, and it's coming, absolutely useless tools like Michael Steele won't matter or be at all necessary. Easily led Amerika will be ready for the regressive swing of the political pendulum to go back from left to right long about 2016. It's the pathocratic fascist way of this democratic republic run by the global corporatocracy.

So, bruh, resign yourself to the reality that Micheal Steele is just a prop in a meaningless facade. The GOP ain't for real with this political chicanery. This is a gimmick.
