Regarding Van Jones: Beck 1, White House 0
Van Jones resigned from his staff position at the White House where he worked on "green jobs" issues. While I was never certain that his position was more than window dressing, I did see his appointment as one with at least superficial importance. His removal now creates two major problems for the White House.
First, it is yet another reminder that the Obama vetting operation is shot through with problems. Everything you need to know about Jones and his political positions is easily available in a short Internet search, so either the White House did not take the time to find out if there was anything in his background that would embarrass the President, or they did not care. If the latter is true, then they should have defended him when Glenn Beck and his merry band of ignorants rose up to take a chunk out of the progressive movement.
The second problem is that the Jones affair only emboldens the conservative movement to go after those whose views are even slightly controversial. The Right will now redouble their efforts to stymie the Obama administration by creating mountainous controversies out of molehills. The unwillingness to fight back in cases like this creates concerns that "Obambi" won't fight his opponents. That position encourages bullys, so expect more attacks on the administration that look very much like what happened to Jones.

Michael, For me your second point about Van Jones is more salient than your first. During the Campaign, Van Jones' support for the President was unwavering, unshakable, even when it would have been easier to bail out on him in the wake of "controversy." The President did not return the favor to Jones. Again, however, I ain't mad at him. The President is in the "Bubble," and he is just one person. Where was the outrage from "us," those who allowed the Becks of the World to railroad one of our rising and promising stars? So often, I routinely sign petitions and other things thrust before me by "friends" in the Movement. This was not a problem with vetting. This had more to do with valor ....... Johnny Barnes

I was totally done with the then campaigning Senator Obama pitching poor Reverend Jeremiah Wright under the bus to capitulate to covert racists whining about his slapping down the race card through his pastoral surrogate. It is a vexing practice that has swiftly evolved into President Obama's pitching under the the wheels of the fast moving bus every form of politically incorrect embarrassment to his perpetual capitulation to enemies out to see him politically (and quite possibly PHYSICALLY) dead by any means necessary.
I'm not a doctor, and would never even be offered the role on local cable access TV. That notwithstanding, I am going to step out on a limb here and suggest, not prescribe, that my duly elected President start taking some GROWASET, for the removal of the yellow streak up his back so annoyingly symptomatic of Democratic spinal bone loss. It will hopefully releive that burning panic experienced by our craven high ranking Democrats every time dissenting left leaning American patriots exercise their 1st Amendment rights, often to the chagrin of the overbearing religio-fascist right wing.
