ACORN? Unacceptable. Gang Rape? Acceptable!?
Jon Stewart exposed hypocrisy in the Senate Republican caucus over the GOP's rush to defund ACORN, while voting against an amendment offered by Senator Al Franken that would prohibit government contractors from inserting language in employee agreements that would preclude workers from suing for mistreatment. The amendment was offered in response to the treatment of Jamie Leigh Jones who, in 2005, was gang-raped by Halliburton/KBR co-workers while a contract worker in Iraq; she was locked into a shipping container to prevent her from reporting the incident. Her employment agreement only allows for a private arbitration hearing, not a prosecution in a court of law. Franken's amendment would close that loophole for Halliburton/KBR.
All of the 30 votes against the amendment came from Republicans. They are: Alexander (R-TN), Barrasso (R-WY), Bond (R-MO), Brownback (R-KS), Bunning (R-KY), Burr (R-NC), Chambliss (R-GA), Coburn (R-OK), Cochran (R-MS), Corker (R-TN), Cornyn (R-TX), Crapo (R-ID), DeMint (R-SC), Ensign (R-NV), Enzi (R-WY), Graham (R-SC), Gregg (R-NH), Inhofe (R-OK), Isakson (R-GA), Johanns (R-NE), Kyl (R-AZ), McCain (R-AZ), McConnell (R-KY), Risch (R-ID), Roberts (R-KS), Sessions (R-AL), Shelby (R-AL), Thune (R-SD), Vitter (R-LA), Wicker (R-MS).
Why are these Senators so protective of Halliburton?
Here's Jon Stewart's take on the opponents of the amendment. Searing!
