Fauntroy and Frum on Public Radio International's The Tavis Smiley Show
David Frum and I discussed the November 3rd election results on The Tavis Smiley Show on Public Radio International. The show airs this weekend, so click here to check date and time in your area. Frum thinks the results are potentially emblematic of a trend toward the GOP. I think it's easy to overstate the results and apply some larger significance to them. Virginia and New Jersey had significant local dimensions that, in my opinion, help to explain the outcomes. And for the results being a referendum on President Obama? Not so much. In Virginia, for example, 57 percent of voters in exit polls stated that their vote had nothing to do with the President's policies.November 8, 2009 | Permalink

David Frum is a quintessential statistician in the sense that he watches the numbers in coordination with political events that inevitably pan out. I respect David for his political position, yet I believe the GOP consistently "misses the mark" by over focusing on the stats that seem to "work" as opposed to what the people are actually saying and living everyday on the ground. There are those on the political front that pay heavy attention to polling that comprises of only 100 to 1000 participants and then they over emphasize those poling results into the thoughts and actions of the American People, which in my view has been very dangerous and political suicide for the GOP party in the last few months and years. Mr. Fauntroy hit the mark by doing something very simple and that was sticking to the facts that were shown undisputedly by not only poll results yet historical references which are ill refutable. The GOP would learn a great lesson from the likes of Mr. Fauntroy, who if they would just pay attention could change the political landscape entirely for the GOP party not only in the "black" community but the Nation...perhaps even the world. As Dragnet would say...just stick to the facts.
